Senior Mechanical Engineer – Staff – Salary + Benefits – Hybrid Working – Ayrshire Our leading engineering consultancy client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer on a staff basis. You will be responsible for leading the design and validation of the Mechanical & Piping Systems of all projects. Duties: * Leading and developing the layout of overall plant facilities, including placing equipment and process units – Coordination with Mechanical Designers and key Stakeholders. * Lead the design and development of mechanical systems and components, ensuring compliance with functional performance requirements, safety regulations, Insurance requirements and ergonomic standards. * Translate project specifications into detailed mechanical designs, including calculations, material selection, and component integration for optimal reliability and efficiency * Develop and validate new technologies and designs, conducting due diligence and analysis to confirm compliance with design intent and regulatory standards. * Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including 3D models, 2D drawings, and technical specifications using industry-standard CAD tools. * Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, procurement, commissioning) to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems within overall plant and process layouts. * Conduct risk assessments and implement design improvements to enhance safety, maintainability, and cost-effectiveness throughout the project lifecycle. * Support commissioning and installation activities, providing technical oversight to ensure alignment with approved designs and quality standards. * Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging lessons learned and emerging technologies to optimize mechanical design processes and standards. * Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards (e.g., EN13480, ASME B31.3) and maintain up-todate knowledge of industry best practices. * Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members, fostering knowledge sharing and professional development. * Designs should ensure best economic cost and minimise overall project, operations and maintenance costs. * Responsible for design calculation, specification, procedures, quality inspections and bid evaluation. * Knowledge of the costs of various mechanical fabrication and erection methods. * Assist in the Selection of equipment and materials, providing support to procurement activities creating of detailed Tender packages (RFQ) and evaluating vendor submittals. * Scheduling and planning of technical activities to ensure project accuracy and quality from concept stage to Completion * Monitoring and reviewing completed work to ensure project is on time and on budget. Validation through Inspection, supervision to ensure installation aligns with project design Experience & Qualifications: * Ideally Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline or equivalent experience. * Industry experience of working with process and pressure equipment such as piping, pumps, pressure vessels, valves etc
