Post Title: SEMH Class Teacher (KS1 – Years 1 & 2) Scale/Level: Main Pay Scale M1–M6 / UPS + potential TLR Responsible to: Head of Schools / Executive Headteacher Immediate Teaching Responsibility to: Director of Inclusion Responsible for: Relevant support staff within the SEMH unit Job Purpose We are seeking a committed and passionate SEMH Class Teacher to join our specialist unit supporting pupils in Years 1 and 2. The successful candidate will provide high-quality teaching and tailored support for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to make academic progress, develop emotional regulation, and reintegrate successfully into mainstream learning. The SEMH unit offers short- to medium-term intensive provision for a small group of pupils who benefit from a structured, nurturing, and therapeutic approach. Pupils remain on roll at the school and are supported to access mainstream opportunities wherever possible. Key Responsibilities * Deliver engaging, inclusive lessons adapted for SEMH pupils in KS1. * Use restorative and de-escalation approaches to support behaviour and wellbeing. * Plan and assess learning based on individual starting points, providing constructive feedback. * Create a calm, safe, and structured learning environment. * Direct and support staff within the SEMH unit to ensure consistent provision. * Monitor pupil progress against academic and SEMH targets, reporting regularly to parents and carers. * Collaborate with mainstream teachers to plan and review reintegration pathways. * Work closely with the Inclusion Team, SENCo, and external professionals (e.g. Speech & Language Therapy, Educational Psychology). * Contribute to the school’s inclusive ethos, safeguarding practices, and professional development culture.
