SEN Teaching Assistant


An excellent long-term opportunity has become available for an experienced and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive Infant and Nursery School in Barnet. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about early years and primary education and confident supporting children with additional needs in a nurturing but structured environment. The school is a friendly, community-focused setting where every child is valued and supported to achieve their best. With three classes per year group and a strong emphasis on inclusion, staff work closely together to create a calm, supportive learning experience for all pupils. About the role: Morning support in Nursery, working 1:1 with an autistic child (some speech, no personal care required) Supporting the same child for part of the lunch period, followed by your own break Afternoon support in a Year 1 classroom, assisting children with more challenging behaviours Working closely with class teachers and SEN staff to support learning, engagement, and behaviour The ideal candidate will: Have experience supporting children with SEN, particularly autism Be confident, resilient, and able to use initiative in challenging situations Have a calm, patient, and nurturing approach Be adaptable and comfortable working across Nursery and Key Stage 1 Be committed to safeguarding and promoting children’s wellbeing This is a varied and rewarding role offering consistent hours, a supportive staff team, and the chance to make a meaningful difference during a crucial stage of children’s development.
