HSE Compliance Lead


HSE Compliance Lead Manufacturing / Hazardous Process Environment £50,000 – £55,000 + Benefits Full-time | Permanent | On-site An established and rapidly expanding UK-based manufacturing business operating within a hazardous process / chemical environment is seeking an experienced HSE Compliance Lead to take ownership of health, safety, and environmental governance across the organisation. This is a key leadership role, offering the opportunity to embed and strengthen a proactive safety culture within a growing, family-owned business that places high value on compliance, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.   The Role Reporting into senior leadership and working closely with the HSE Operations function, the HSE Compliance Lead will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and corporate HSE requirements. You will provide strategic oversight, technical expertise, and assurance that robust governance frameworks are in place and operating effectively across the business.   Key Responsibilities Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide HSE policies, procedures, and governance frameworks Maintain and update the HSE legal register, ensuring compliance with all applicable UK legislation Monitor legislative changes and ensure timely implementation of compliance controls Lead ISO management system compliance (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001), including certification and audits Act as primary contact for external auditors and regulatory bodies Lead internal HSE audits focused on legal, procedural, and system compliance Track audit findings, oversee corrective actions, and report progress to senior management Develop and maintain corporate risk registers, compliance matrices, and assurance frameworks Produce compliance reports for senior leadership and board-level review Lead the HSE Management Review process Maintain oversight of environmental permits, licences, consents, and reporting obligations Oversee environmental aspects and impacts registers Define HSE compliance requirements for contractors, suppliers, and service providers Identify HSE training needs and ensure appropriate delivery across the business Provide coaching and guidance to leaders on statutory obligations and governance responsibilities Support operational teams with compliance interpretation and evidence-based advice Lead investigations and root-cause analysis for systemic or recurring compliance issues   About You You will be an experienced HSE professional with a strong compliance and governance background in a manufacturing or hazardous process environment. Essential: NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) Minimum 10 years’ experience in manufacturing / factory environments Excellent knowledge of UK HSE legislation and regulatory frameworks Strong auditing experience In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 Confident communicator with the ability to influence at all levels Desirable: Experience within a chemical manufacturing environment Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering You will be proactive, solutions-focused, and comfortable operating both strategically and hands-on when required.   Package & Benefits Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 per annum (depending on experience) Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week 33 days annual leave inclusive of bank holidays On-site electric car charging Additional benefits and compensation package to be discussed at interview   Location On-site role (UK-based manufacturing facility)
