Senior Product Designer

Overview A global industrial technology manufacturer, specialising in energy-efficient power transmission and drive solutions, is seeking a Senior Product Designer to join its UK-based Product Design & Innovation team. The organisation develops variable frequency drive (VFD) technology used across diverse industrial sectors and is heavily focused on sustainability, carbon reduction and innovative R&D investment. This role is based at the company’s headquarters and manufacturing facility in the UK, working on insight-led product development that aligns to long-term strategic direction. The position will suit a creative and commercially aware Senior Product or Industrial Designer who is comfortable leading projects end-to-end and presenting work at a senior level. Key Responsibilities * Lead the design and development of new product concepts aligned to strategic product roadmaps * Identify and validate innovation opportunities through user, market and internal research activities * Manage multiple design projects from early-stage research through to commercially viable concept output * Challenge assumptions and existing paradigms to deliver novel and user-centric solutions * Use rapid prototyping (including 3D printing) to iterate, test and evaluate design concepts * Present concepts, rationale and design direction to senior stakeholders and cross-functional leaders * Inspire and mentor colleagues through high design standards and strong communication * Ensure design work meets commercial, technical and strategic objectives * Contribute to long-term design thinking, methodology and innovation culture within R&D Required Qualifications & Experience * Degree (Bachelors and/or Masters) in Product Design or Industrial Design * 5+ years industry experience in product/industrial design roles * Strong portfolio demonstrating inventive design, user insight application and products taken through to commercial release * Proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD tools (SolidWorks highly advantageous) * Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production considerations * Ability to generate, communicate and defend design intent to varied audiences * Excellent organisational discipline with the ability to manage multiple projects and timelines * Commercial awareness and ability to balance innovation with real-world constraints * Confident communicator capable of presenting to senior leadership * Experience coaching or mentoring less experienced designers Desirable Attributes * Experience working within R&D or cross-functional engineering environments * Ability to influence design direction at both project and roadmap level * Passion for sustainability, energy-efficient technologies or industrial products
