Junior Product Designer

Overview A well-established global manufacturer of industrial drive and motion control technologies is seeking a Junior Product Designer to join its Product Design & Innovation function. The organisation designs and manufactures energy-efficient variable frequency drive (VFD) technology used across a wide range of industrial applications, with major investment in sustainability and carbon-reduction initiatives. This role is based at the company’s UK headquarters and manufacturing site, working within a growing R&D team to develop inventive, user-focused product solutions across multiple product categories. The position would suit a creative Product/Industrial Designer with a strong portfolio, hands-on prototyping experience and a desire to turn insight-driven ideas into commercially viable products. Key Responsibilities * Contribute to the development of new products that support the long-term strategic roadmap * Support ongoing product lifecycle exercises and incremental improvements to existing lines * Create 3D CAD models, assemblies and production-ready drawings * Use rapid prototyping (including 3D printing) to evaluate design concepts * Assist in prototype builds, design validation activities and mechanical testing * Produce high-quality documentation such as visuals, illustrations and design reports * Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, compliance and manufacturing * Follow structured design review and release workflows * Contribute to problem solving, iterative development and user-driven design exploration Required Qualifications & Experience * Degree in Product Design or Industrial Design, ideally supported by at least 2 years of industry experience * Strong portfolio demonstrating creative concept development through to manufactured product * Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) * Good understanding of manufacturing processes and production considerations * Effective communicator with the ability to work cross-functionally * Strong organisational ability with good attention to detail * Comfortable managing workload and meeting deadlines * Practical, inventive mindset with the ability to translate insights into product features Desirable Attributes * Hands-on approach to prototyping, testing and build activities * Experience in documenting design intent visually and technically * Interest in sustainable technologies and user-centric product development
