Site Agent - Civil Engineering (Highways & Structures) Location: Southern Region (Near Eastbourne, East Sussex) Project Duration: Approx. 18 months Start Date: Early 2026 About the Role Due to continued growth, a leading civil engineering contractor is seeking to appoint an experienced Site Agent to join its Southern Region team. The initial assignment will be on a large, critical infrastructure scheme near Eastbourne, involving highways and bridge construction works. Key Responsibilities Manage site staff, operatives, and subcontractors Prepare and implement method statements, risk assessments, and project management plans Understand tender allowances and monitor contract costs against agreed budgets Prepare, manage, and monitor programmes of work Assess, appoint, and manage subcontractors Coordinate design activities and manage project risks Administer contracts to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and profitably Manage and administer contract variations and change control Liaise with stakeholders and local groups as required Maintain strong client relationships and uphold the contractor's professional reputation Supervise, mentor, and support the development of junior engineering and site staff About the Candidate Proven experience as a Site Agent or Senior Site Agent with a main contractor Relevant qualification (HNC, HND, BEng or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or Construction SMSTS qualification (essential) Valid CSCS card (appropriate level) First Aid at Work qualification desirable Strong background in highways, earthworks, and structures Eligible to live and work in the UK Full UK driving licence Essential Skills & Experience Ability to manage works against programme and budget Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload Experience running multiple complex and non-complex sites Excellent record keeping and site documentation management Strong understanding of current legislation and H&S requirements Experience producing and implementing RAMS and associated project documentation Ability to forecast cost and programme performance Benefits & Development The role offers an excellent benefits package and strong personal development opportunities, including: Life assurance (4x annual salary) Company car or car allowance Company pension scheme (employer contribution up to 8%) 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (with the option to purchase additional leave) Extensive training and development programmes Cycle-to-work scheme Employee Assistance Programme Employee benefits platform Free on-site parking Company social events, charity initiatives, and regular team activities A supportive business committed to career progression Early finish every Friday
