Job Title: Senior Quality Engineer Location: Derby Salary: up to £45,000 Contract: Permanent Role Overview – Senior Quality Engineer An established aerospace manufacturer is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to strengthen its customer‑focused quality function and support quality operations across its logistics and production activities. This role suits a quality professional with aerospace experience who is confident representing customer interests, managing quality performance across multiple sites, and ensuring investigations, returns, and improvement actions meet strict industry standards. You’ll play a key part in driving continuous improvement and supporting operational teams to maintain high levels of product and process conformity. Key Responsibilities – Senior Quality Engineer Act as the primary point of contact for customer quality matters, maintaining strong communication and proactive management of expectations. Lead and coordinate responses to issues such as customer returns, non‑conformances, and questions about product quality. Review and enhance root‑cause investigations and corrective actions before presenting responses externally. Maintain and update quality plans to ensure alignment with aerospace customer and project requirements. Oversee day‑to‑day quality activities within the logistics centre, including inspections, returns processing, and containment activities. Support the introduction of new quality tools, methods, and improvement initiatives. Track and analyse quality metrics, working closely with cross‑functional teams to drive performance improvements. Mentor and support the development of quality team members. Ensure compliance with aerospace industry standards and internal management systems. Contribute to wider operational goals including safety, delivery performance, cost control, and team development. Key Experience & Qualifications – Senior Quality Engineer Experience in quality engineering within aerospace or another highly regulated manufacturing environment. Strong understanding of structured problem‑solving techniques (such as 8D, RCCA, APQP‑style methods). Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. Experience leading quality projects or supporting small teams. Good analytical ability with experience using ERP and quality‑related systems. Confident communicator, capable of managing discussions with both customers and internal teams. Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is advantageous.
