HSEQ Lead


We’re supporting a large, operationally complex waste and recycling organisation to recruit a newly created HSEQ Lead for a multi-site role across Cheshire. This is a hands-on, site-based position, split 50% Health & Safety and 50% Environmental, supporting a growing HSEQ function during a period of change and investment. The role also includes coaching and managing a small team of two supervisors, making it ideal for someone ready to step into a more senior, influential position. Crucially, the business is happy to train the right candidate on either the Health & Safety or Environmental side, provided you bring strength in one discipline and the appetite to develop the other. HSEQ Lead – Multi-Site Role Cheshire | Waste & Recycling | Up to £47,000 + Benefits The Role The HSEQ Lead role has been created to strengthen on-site leadership across Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality activity while working closely with the HSEQ Manager. You’ll spend the majority of your time on site, supporting day-to-day operational activity, leading compliance standards, and driving continual improvement across multiple locations. Key Responsibilities Provide HSEQ leadership and support across multiple operational sites in Cheshire Coach, support and manage two HSEQ Supervisors Review and ensure compliance with permits and environmental permissions Oversee waste storage, including hazardous and non-hazardous waste Ensure correct waste classification and waste transfer processes Control and management of chemicals and COSHH Environmental impact assessment, control measures and monitoring Spill prevention planning and spill response management Conduct site inspections, audits and safety walks Lead and support site inductions Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root cause and corrective actions Review and implement Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) Support the implementation and embedding of the HSEQ management system Build strong working relationships with site managers and operational teams Key Risk Areas Pedestrian and vehicle movements Waste storage and associated fire risk Environmental spills and incidents Fixed plant and machinery within an MRF environment Power isolation and machinery safety Some exposure to CDM environments About You Recognised Health & Safety or Environmental qualification (e.g. NEBOSH, IEMA or equivalent) – essential Experience in either Health & Safety or Environmental management within an operational environment Background in waste and recycling preferred; manufacturing, utilities or construction also considered Comfortable working in a multi-site, hands-on role Confident engaging with operational teams and leading by example on site Willingness to be trained and develop across the full HSEQ remit Organised, practical, and proactive approach Location & Working Pattern Multi-site role across Cheshire (based at the site closest to home) Regular travel between sites (pool car provided) Mileage paid at 45p per mile One day per week working from home 40-hour week with flexible start and finish times Salary & Benefits Up to £47,000 per annum, depending on experience Pension: 5% employee / 3% employer Discount and salary-extras scheme Approx. 26 days annual leave On-site canteen, tea and coffee facilities Why Apply?
