Transport Planner – Container Haulage 📍 London Gateway, Essex 💼 Full-Time | Permanent 🕘 Monday to Friday – Working hours to suit the candidate 💰 Salary: £35,000 – £80,000 DOE Recruiting on behalf of a leading container haulage operator We are recruiting on behalf of a highly regarded and expanding container haulage specialist operating from London Gateway, one of the UK’s most important deep-sea ports. Our client has built an excellent reputation for operational efficiency, long-term customer partnerships, and strong driver engagement. Due to continued growth and increased workload, they are now seeking an experienced Transport Planner to strengthen their planning function. The Role This is a key position within a busy and fast-moving container operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective planning and execution of container movements from London Gateway, ensuring operational efficiency, legal compliance, and outstanding customer service. Key Responsibilities Planning and coordinating container collections and deliveries from London Gateway Managing daily and forward planning for a fleet of HGV drivers Maximising vehicle and driver utilisation while maintaining compliance Liaising with drivers, customers, ports, and shipping lines Managing and monitoring drivers’ hours, WTD, and legal requirements Responding effectively to port delays, vessel changes, and operational challenges Using transport management systems (TMS) to plan, track, and update movements Maintaining high service levels and supporting continuous operational improvement Candidate Profile We are looking to speak with motivated and commercially aware transport planners who understand the demands of container haulage and port-based logistics.
