Senior Primary Design Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Primary Design Engineer to lead and deliver high-quality primary engineering designs for HV substations and power infrastructure projects. Working for the specialist power engineering arm of a FTSE 250 company, you will play a key role in technical delivery, mentoring junior engineers, and working closely with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams. This role is available on a hybrid or remote basis, offering flexibility while remaining closely connected to project teams and clients. Key Responsibilities: * Lead the design and development of primary engineering solutions for HV substations and associated infrastructure * Produce and review primary design deliverables including layouts, GA drawings, equipment specifications, and technical reports * Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, client specifications, and safety requirements * ​​​​​​​Provide technical guidance, checking, and mentoring to junior engineers * ​​​​​​​Interface with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle * Support project planning, cost estimates, and risk assessment * ​​​​​​​Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and standards About You: * Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline * Significant experience in primary design within HV substations (e.g. 33kV–400kV) * Strong knowledge of UK / international standards and utility requirements * Proven ability to lead design tasks and review the work of others * Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills * Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (desirable) What's On Offer * Competitive salary and benefits package * Hybrid / remote working options * Opportunities for career progression and professional development * Exposure to major infrastructure and energy transition projects * Supportive and collaborative team environment, under the leadership of a supportive and inspiring manager If you’re ready to take the next step in your engineering career, we’d love to hear from you.
