User Researcher – Public Sector (Discovery-Focused) Rate: Outside IR35 (competitive / DOE) Contract Length: 6 months Start: ASAP Location: Hybrid, with on-site working in London a few times per month (occasionally weekly) Clearance: Active SC Clearance is essential We are supporting a consultancy delivering a public sector programme and are looking for an experienced User Researcher to join the team. This role is particularly suited to researchers with strong public sector experience, a background in human factors, and confidence applying mixed research methods in discovery-led environments. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to understand user needs, behaviours and constraints, helping to shape services from the earliest stages. Key Responsibilities Plan and conduct discovery-phase user research Apply mixed methods, including qualitative and quantitative approaches Use human factors principles to understand user behaviour and system interactions Design and run interviews, usability testing, workshops and surveys Synthesise research findings into clear, actionable insights Collaborate closely with product, design, content and delivery teams Communicate research outcomes effectively to a range of stakeholdersEssential Experience Proven experience as a User Researcher within public sector environments Strong background in human factors or behavioural research Demonstrable experience using mixed research methods Experience working in discovery or early-stage research contexts Ability to work confidently in multidisciplinary Agile teams Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skillsDesirable Experience Experience working to GDS standards and ways of working Experience supporting complex or regulated servicesThis is a great opportunity to work on a discovery-led public sector programme with real impact.
