Secondary Design Engineer – Substations (132–400 kV) Location: Anywhere in the UK — fully flexible, hybrid working Industry: Power Transmission & Distribution Are you an experienced Secondary Design Engineer looking for a role where your work directly impacts the future of the UK’s energy network? This organisation is expanding its Power & Utilities division and are seeking talented Secondary Design Engineers to help deliver major 132 kV, 275 kV and 400 kV substation projects. You’ll join a team working at the cutting edge of grid modernisation, clean-energy integration and transmission infrastructure — and you can be based anywhere in the UK. In this role, you’ll take ownership of the secondary design scope for complex substation schemes, covering protection and control, SCADA/RTU systems, AC/DC auxiliary systems and all associated drawings and documentation. You’ll work with high-profile clients including National Grid, SSEN, SP Energy Networks, Electricity North West, UK Power Networks and Northern Powergrid, and collaborate closely with Primary Engineers, site teams and major EPC partners. ⭐ To succeed in this role, you’ll bring: * Solid experience in secondary design for HV/EHV substations * Strong capability in protection, control, SCADA and auxiliary design * Proficiency with CAD tools and ideally experience in BIM environments * A good understanding of UK protection philosophies, SCADA protocols and LV AC/DC systems * Familiarity with modern relays (Siemens SIPROTEC, ABB Relion, GE Multilin, etc.) * An HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering (degree or professional registration desirable) You’ll be joining a supportive, collaborative engineering team that values expertise, innovation and professional development.
