Service Charge Accountant We’re partnering with a well-established property management business based in Birmingham that is continuing to invest heavily in its finance function as it grows. They know service charge accounting isn’t just about reconciling numbers – it’s about protecting trust, strengthening relationships and making sure the mechanics behind great property management actually work. If you’re someone who lives and breathes service charge, enjoys working with their own client portfolio and want a role where your expertise will genuinely be appreciated, this one’s worth your time. The Role You’ll take ownership of service charge accounting across a varied residential / mixed-use property portfolio. This is a hands-on, technical role where accuracy, confidence and commercial awareness really matter. Your day-to-day will include: * End-to-end preparation and management of service charge budgets * Production of year-end service charge accounts and full reconciliations * Accurate cost allocation and apportionment in line with leases * Preparation and issue of service charge statements to leaseholders * Managing the year-end close process and supporting service charge audits * Handling more complex service charge queries from property managers and stakeholders * Monitoring spend vs budget and investigating variances * Ensuring full compliance with lease terms, regulations and internal controls * Maintaining clean, accurate financial records across the portfolio * Contributing to process improvements within service charge accounting * Handle mobilisations and hand overs for new schemes that are being onboarded. What They’re Looking For You’ll be someone who knows service charge inside out and wants to part of a friendly, down-to-earth team. Ideally, you’ll bring: * Solid experience in service charge accounting (property sector essential) * Strong knowledge of service charge rules, reporting and compliance * Experience preparing budgets, reconciliations and final accounts end to end * Confidence interpreting leases and applying apportionments correctly * Strong Excel skills (you’re friends with pivot tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP) * Experience using property or service charge accounting systems * Excellent attention to detail and a calm head under pressure * AAT / ACCA / CIMA qualification, part-qualified, or qualified by experience Why This Role? This is one of those roles where you’ll genuinely be trusted with your portfolio in a business that values a strong service charge function and wants someone who takes pride in running it properly. You’ll sit in a supportive finance team that understands what good looks like, where your voice will be heard and your ideas taken seriously. Interested?
