The Role As a CNC Sliding Head Programmer, you will be responsible for programming, setting and operating sliding head lathes to produce high-quality precision components. You will work from engineering drawings, develop efficient machining processes, and ensure production meets strict quality standards. This role is ideal for someone confident working independently who enjoys taking ownership of their machines and contributing to a high-performing workshop. Key Responsibilities * Program, set and operate sliding head CNC lathes (such as Star, Citizen, Tornos, etc.) * Produce precision components to tight tolerances * Read and interpret engineering drawings * Create and optimise machining programs (on-machine or offline depending on need) * Select tooling, adjust offsets and improve cycle times * Carry out first-off inspections and support ongoing quality control * Maintain machines, tooling and general workshop housekeeping * Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams What We’re Looking For * Strong experience with sliding head CNC machines — Star, Citizen, Tornos, Nomura or similar * Ability to program from scratch and develop process routes * Strong understanding of tooling, feeds, speeds and cutting strategy * Confident reading technical/engineering drawings * Experience machining a range of materials including stainless steel, aluminium and exotic alloys * Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail * Reliable, organised and able to work independently
