College Learning Mentor / Teaching Assistant Location: Central London Contract: Full-time / Term-time Start Date: Immediate Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience DBS: Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is essential About the Role We are seeking a dedicated, motivated and student-focused Learning Mentor / Teaching Assistant to join a thriving Further Education college in the heart of London. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting learners aged 16–19 (and adult learners) to overcome barriers to learning, improve engagement, and achieve their academic and personal goals. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about education, pastoral care, and helping young people thrive in a diverse and vibrant college community. Key Responsibilities * Provide 1:1 and small-group academic mentoring to support study skills, organisation and subject understanding. * Offer pastoral support to learners with SEMH, SEN, or wellbeing needs. * Assist teaching staff in the delivery of engaging lessons across a range of subjects. * Track progress and contribute to support plans, intervention strategies and learner reviews. * Promote positive behaviour, confidence-building, and resilience. * Liaise with teachers, support teams and external agencies where appropriate. * Help create a safe, inclusive and encouraging environment for all learners. Requirements * Enhanced DBS on the Update Service — ESSENTIAL * Experience in mentoring, teaching assistance or supporting learners (school or FE setting). * Strong communication, empathy and relationship-building skills. * Ability to support a diverse student body, including those with SEN, EAL or SEMH needs. * A proactive, calm and supportive approach to working with young people. * Ability to work well as part of a team in a fast-paced educational environment. * Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential.
