Mechanical Project Engineer


Project Engineer – Water Industry (Mechanical) GRS are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to lead and deliver engineering schemes and maintenance works across water and non-infrastructure projects. This role covers everything from mechanical design coordination and client communication to site installation, testing, and commissioning. Key Responsibilities * Develop mechanical scopes of work and prepare accurate estimates in collaboration with clients and internal teams * Oversee full project delivery including mechanical design reviews, site surveys, installation, inspection, and commissioning * Manage mechanical subcontractors and suppliers, including reviewing technical quotes, verifying specifications, and approving H&S documentation * Produce and implement mechanical pre-construction plans, commissioning plans, and project handover documentation * Lead technical meetings with clients, consultants, and design teams to resolve mechanical engineering issues * Maintain accurate project records including mechanical drawings, O&M manuals, and all associated documentation * Prepare and submit quotations, progress updates, and HSEQ paperwork to clients * Support training and development initiatives and contribute to a positive on-site safety culture Candidate Requirements Essential: * Proven experience as a Mechanical Project Engineer * HNC/HND or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering * CSCS Gold Card and SMSTS * Full UK driving licence Desirable: * NVQ or equivalent in a core mechanical trade * Experience delivering mechanical works in the water/utilities sector * Knowledge of commissioning procedures, O&M documentation, and subcontractor management GRS (Gearing Recruitment Solutions) works across the following sectors and frameworks: water treatment, clean water, wastewater, sewage treatment, pumping stations, chemical dosing, sludge treatment, AMP frameworks, and clients including Thames Water, Anglian Water, Severn Trent, Welsh Water, Yorkshire Water, United Utilities and more.
