Job Summary:
The Utility Mapper is responsible for identifying, locating, and mapping underground and aboveground utility infrastructure using industry-standard equipment and software. This role supports safe excavation, planning, and construction activities by ensuring accurate data collection and documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct field surveys to locate and mark underground utilities using electromagnetic locating equipment, GPR, GPS, and other tools.
Create detailed utility maps using GIS/CAD software.
Maintain accurate and organized records of utility locations and field data.
Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and other field personnel to provide utility location support.
Interpret utility plans, as-builts, and other technical drawings.
Comply with all safety protocols and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, local 811 procedures).
Assist in responding to emergency locate requests, if applicable.
Perform daily maintenance checks and calibrations of equipment.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience with utility locating or mapping equipment (e.g., EM locators, GPS, GPR).
Basic knowledge of GIS or CAD software.
Strong attention to detail and spatial awareness.
Valid driver s license with clean driving record.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred:
Associate s or Bachelor s degree in Geography, Surveying, Engineering Technology, or related field.
Certifications such as NULCA, CGA, or utility locating training.
Familiarity with state and local utility regulations and marking procedures.
Working Conditions:
Outdoor fieldwork in various weather and terrain conditions.
Possible travel to job sites; occasional overnight stays may be required.
Must be able to walk, bend, lift equipment (up to 30 lbs), and stand for extended periods.
