About the Role
As
Senior Specifications Technologist
, you ll be responsible for the accurate and timely completion of finished product specifications for major UK retailers including Tesco, Sainsbury s, Co-op, Aldi, Morrisons, ASDA, Lidl, and others. You'll also support internal projects and systems, playing a key part in maintaining high technical standards across the business.
Key Responsibilities

Write and complete finished product specifications for both customer and own brand products.

Manage retailer and customer portals including specification and artwork systems.

Approve supplier specifications and manage supplier onboarding.

Ensure compliance with retailer codes of practice and internal standards.

Deliver accurate specifications to a right first time standard, meeting internal KPIs.

Generate pack copy and legally compliant product names for own-label ranges.

Review and approve artwork including content, design, cutter guides and CAD references.

Liaise with retailers, third parties, artwork houses, and print suppliers throughout the artwork process.

Support NPD with theoretical nutritional calculations and submission documentation.

Cross-check factory paperwork, recipes, and specifications for consistency and accuracy.

Conduct specification cross-checks across the team ahead of final submission.

Review and approve Brandbank content prior to product launch.

Participate in pre- and post-launch reviews to ensure successful rollout.

Apply knowledge of Brexit-related codes and labelling requirements.

Support raw material risk assessments and supplier approval where needed.

Stay current with legislation, BRC and retailer audit requirements relevant to the role.

Contribute to additional technical or NPD projects, including packaging matrix and recipe documentation reviews.

Mentor and support junior specification writers as required.
About You
You re highly organised, self-driven, and detail-focused, with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. You communicate clearly and confidently with internal teams, retailers, and third parties. You re tech-savvy, experienced in Microsoft Office, and comfortable navigating customer specification systems.
Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Strong experience writing and managing product specifications for major UK retailers

Deep understanding of retailer technical standards and customer expectations

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience with specification portals such as Hamilton Grant or equivalent

Knowledge of food legislation, labelling, and artwork requirements

Familiarity with NPD processes, nutritional calculations, and launch protocols
