Engineering Manager – Embedded & IoT Bedfordshire (Office-based) EV Charging | Smart Products | IoT £70,000 - £90,000 My client is looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the development of innovative smart EV charging systems. You’ll manage a multi-skilled team across hardware, firmware, app, cloud, and web development, while also contributing directly to technical delivery. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on leading from the front, blending leadership, hands-on development, and cross-functional collaboration in a product-driven environment. Duties & Responsibilities Lead and support a cross-functional engineering team (hardware, embedded, cloud, mobile, web) Own day-to-day development and drive delivery of new features and products Support project planning, hiring, and team growth Ensure high standards of documentation, testing, and reporting Act as deputy to the Director of Engineering when required Collaborate across the wider business: production, sales, and support Requirements Degree in Electronics Engineering (or equivalent experience) Strong background in embedded systems, schematic capture, PCB layout, and board bring-up Proficient with Altium Designer / Altium 365 and EMC design practices Experience in C, Embedded C, and C++ Solid understanding of Agile development, toolchains, and testing Hands-on experience with Espressif, Atmega, or similar 32-bit microcontrollers Experience in app or web-based product development Minimum 4 years in a technical leadership or engineering management role Excellent problem-solving skills and clear communicator Additional Experience IoT / Smart product development EV charging technologies (e.g. OCPP, RAPI) Passion for EVs, renewable energy, or cleantech Take the lead in delivering next-gen EV charging hardware in a business driven by innovation, design, and real-world impact
