About the Role

We re currently seeking an experienced Senior Instrument Designer to join our growing Macclesfield-based project team. This is a key role providing Electrical & Instrumentation Design and Consulting Services across a diverse range of pharmaceutical sector projects.

You'll work with autonomy and purpose, playing a crucial part in delivering high-quality, compliant designs. If you re someone who thrives in multi-discipline environments and enjoys solving technical challenges this role is for you.

What You ll Be Working On

You ll collaborate closely with Project Managers and the Design Team to ensure the successful execution of pharmaceutical projects. Current projects include:

Extensive flow and pressure monitoring system design

Upgrades to effluent plants (PLC control)

Migration of process plants to DCS systems

Your Responsibilities

  • Assess client requirements and review technical needs
  • Estimate resources for design activities
  • Produce concept through detailed designs (typically RIBA Stages 2 4)
  • Deliver designs to time, quality, and budget targets
  • Produce high-quality documentation per project standards
  • Collaborate across Mechanical, HVAC, Process and Civil disciplines
  • Liaise with subcontractors, equipment vendors and stakeholders
  • Provide key 2D deliverables including: General arrangements and layouts, Cable block diagrams, Instrument loop diagrams, Honeywell BMS interface diagrams

What You ll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant Instrumentation design role
  • HNC, Degree or equivalent in an engineering-related subject
  • Familiarity with E&I design best practices and pharmaceutical project environments
  • Working knowledge of ATEX Hazardous Area and Intrinsic Safety
  • Experience across full project lifecycle, from concept through construction
  • Understanding of CDM Regulations 2015
  • Ability to work independently and liaise confidently with clients
  • Team-oriented with strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable conducting site surveys and field coordination
  • Experience or knowledge in, Functional Safety (IEC 61508/61511) desirable or Compex 12 Qualification desirable
