Key Areas of Responsibility – The Role Operational General * To ensure performance is in accordance with all standards held by the company (e.g. ISO 9001:2015 & AS9120 B) * To foster close working relationships with associated departments: sales, purchasing, administration and senior management team Operational (Quality) * To manage and oversee the day-to-day smooth running of the Quality Department. * To work with the Senior Management Team to develop strategic planning and implementation of company policy * To ensure processes required for the Quality Management System (QMS) are established, implemented and maintained; to include: audits, forms, drawings, meetings and procedures * To ensure customer requirements and expectations are met (product and paperwork), are compliant and are legal * To carry out inspection of incoming goods, including works orders and to write up sample reports/FAIRS as required, scanning documentation to ensure lot traceability is maintained. To ensure random inspections are made on products from suppliers who provide multiple items * To manage non-conformances (internal and external), liaising with Purchasing Department to confirm any action to be taken, ensuring paperwork is scanned & records are kept for reporting * To investigate product related returns, liaising with purchasing department to follow fault investigations process through to conclusion * To carry out tests as required and make recommendations based on test data; creating reports and records as necessary * To arrange certification of calibrations, record and update as necessary * To take responsibility for ‘quarantine’ area, keeping the area clear and tidy, managing and monitoring outstanding issues and chasing suppliers to collect * To ensure Vendor Assessments are carried out; visiting suppliers with the purchasing team to ensure that they can fulfil demands and meet our standards * To ensure purchasing staff establish quality requirements from external suppliers * To set up and maintain controls and documentation procedures * To manage the internal and external audits and any resulting non-conformances in the specified timescale Line Management * To manage, mentor and develop direct reports ensuring motivation, morale, welfare and discipline, including managing performance, sickness, absence, time keeping and appraisal objectives * To ensure all training records are produced and filtered through to skills matrix * To ensure all line reports perform in accordance with the company quality system Organisational/Developmental * To share ideas to enhance and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the purchasing department with line managers (LM) and the senior management team (SMT) * To keep abreast of competitor intelligence and impart to relevant parties within Portafix Other * To carry out any reasonable task as requested by any member of the SMT Quality Manager – The person * A team player with strong leadership skills coupled with excellent systematic and organisational abilities, together with the aptitude to prioritise and delegate effectively * Excellent people management experience, with a proven track record of developing individuals by means of close supervision and support, including carrying out appraisals and setting objectives * Ability to see the big picture as well as the finer detail; dealing with small daily matters as well as the larger goals * Capability to follow instructions, to work under pressure and to meet deadlines whilst maintaining an exceptionally high standard of work * Proactive and able to work on own initiative, driven by a desire to make a difference and able to demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement * A significant understanding of technical drawings * Working knowledge of ISO 9002 * IT literate (Microsoft Office) with an excellent standard of General Education including literacy and numeracy
