Speech and Language Mentor


The School
A resource base attached to a primary school, serving pupils aged 3 - 10 who have Speech, Language and Communication needs. Teaching and learning focusses on social and communication skills as well as emotional regulation, although academic development is also included within the curriculum. Pupils who attend the resource base also take part in a range of mainstream lessons/activities.

The Role
Delivering specialised interventions that focus on speech, language and communication skills. These will be delivered one-to-one or in small groups. Working with the Resource Base leader and the SENDCo, you will make assessments of children's progress.

Main responsibilities
-Lead planned interventions with children aged 3 - 10
-Create resources to support the delivery of interventions
-Feedback to other members of staff/parents/external professionals
-Keep up to date records for individual children
-Work under the direction of the Resource Base leader/SENDCo

Essential Criteria
-NVQ Level 3 (in a relevant field)
-Good level of spoken and written English
-Minimum 2 years experience working with children or young people
-Ability to listen to others and collaborate effectively

Desirable Criteria
-Experience working with children who have Speech, Language and Communication needs.
-Experience working with pupils who have mental health challenges.
