In Surrey's Children, Families and Lifelong Learning services, we feel proud to have careers with a purpose, in many different roles, working closely with partners, that support real people and real lives.
Job Description
An Adolescent Safeguarding Social Worker in Surrey County Council is a dedicated professional who specialises in protecting and promoting the well-being of adolescents who may be at risk of harm or exploitation. Their primary role is to assess the needs and risks faced by adolescents, develop and implement safeguarding plans, and coordinate support services to ensure their safety and well-being.
One of the main responsibilities of an Adolescent Safeguarding Social Worker is to conduct thorough assessments of adolescents who may be experiencing abuse, neglect, or exploitation. This involves gathering information from various sources, including the adolescent, their family, schools, healthcare providers, and other relevant parties, to understand their circumstances and any potential risks they may face.
Based on their assessments, Safeguarding Social Workers develop and implement safeguarding plans tailored to address the specific needs and risks identified. These plans may involve accessing support services such as counselling, housing assistance, substance abuse treatment, or legal advocacy, and collaborating with other professionals and agencies to ensure coordinated and effective intervention.
Adolescent Safeguarding Social Workers also play a crucial role in providing support and advocacy for adolescents within the child protection system, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are respected. They may work closely with adolescents to empower them to make informed decisions about their safety and well-being, and to access the support they need to thrive.
Additionally, Adolescent Safeguarding Social Workers collaborate with other professionals and agencies involved in the care and support of adolescents, including schools, police, healthcare providers, and voluntary organisations. They participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and joint working arrangements to ensure a coordinated approach to safeguarding adolescents.
