Electrical Maintenance Engineer


JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE SHIFT ENGINEER RESPONSIBLE TO: ENGINEERING TEAM LEADERS GENERAL DESCRIPTION: To ensure that all electrical equipment and machinery is installed and maintained to a safe operating condition and is available for maximum production utilisation. COMPETENCE: EDUCATION, TRAINING, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE. Skilled electrician with additional mechanical skills and experience, familiar with process manufacturing machines and equipment. Qualified to relevant City and Guilds or NVQ standard, with experience of working on and maintaining electrical control systems, fault finding, pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, pumps, gearboxes and conveying equipment etc and willing to work shifts and unsupervised. Can read both mechanical and electrical drgs. 1. OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.1 To ensure that all mechanical plant and electrical equipment is maintained in a safe working condition and to avoid excessive lost production time. 1.2 To be responsible for a timely resolution to all machine breakdowns employing suitable fault-finding skills to ‘fix’ the issues and ensure the machine is running in a safe manner in the correct way. 1.3 To be responsible for planned maintenance schedules to complete all required tasks in a timely manner and ensure records of task completion is maintained. 1.4 To be responsible for establishing and working with task risk assessments and defined permit systems. 1.5 To test all equipment in the factory and office areas in accordance with the relevant electricity at work regulations. 1.6 To install new electrical/mechanical equipment as required in accordance with the latest electricity at work and 18 th edition regulations. 1.7 To build and install any plant barriers and guarding that has been requested, to ensure all machinery requirements are met. 1.8 To manage and carry out minor, semi-major projects and major project work as required and take part in exceptional project work. Organising assistance from the wider team or contractors as required. 1.9 To order required spare parts and make contact with contractors when required. 2. HEALTH AND SAFETY 2.1 Ensure you are working within policy requirements:  Meeting all relevant legal and statutory obligations.  Working safely and efficiently, adhering to all company procedures, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment.  Always using items provided, correctly in the interest of health and safety.  Always using the instructed personal protective equipment provided.  Reporting anything that they consider to be hazardous to health, including accidents and near misses that have led, or may lead to, injury to people or damage to property, or equipment.  Removing themselves from work situations that they consider present an imminent danger to their life or health.  Assisting in the investigation of accidents and near misses, with the objective of preventing a recurrence. 3. COMMUNICATIONS: 3.1 To attend daily shift hand over meetings ensuring all issue are communicated between the teams 3.2 To report immediately all ongoing machinery defects to the Engineering Team Leader and always endeavour to improve plant efficiency. 3.3 To organise your own cover for planned holiday periods. 3.4 To supply verbal reports to the Team Leader and to always ensure they are kept fully informed of changes on the plant which may affect plant efficiency. 3.5 To attend the following meetings: Daily Production morning meeting (9.30am meeting) Daily (optional) Pay day lunch Monthly Health and safety meeting
