M&E Quantity Surveyor


Overview: Our client, a multidisciplinary construction company, is seeking an experienced M&E Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Edmonton. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing the costs and budgets associated with mechanical and electrical (M&E) aspects of construction projects. This position will be a mixture of office and work from home, with some site visits. Key Responsibilities: 1. Cost Management: Take ownership of all cost-related aspects concerning M&E elements of construction projects, including but not limited to procurement, tendering, valuation, and final account settlement. 2. Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and maintain accurate cost estimates, budgets, and forecasts specifically tailored to M&E works, ensuring alignment with project objectives and financial targets. 3. Contract Administration: Effectively administer contracts and subcontracts pertaining to M&E works, ensuring strict adherence to contractual terms and conditions, while also managing any variations that may arise. 4. Procurement: Lead the procurement process for M&E materials and services, from initial supplier identification and selection to contract negotiation and ongoing supplier management. 5. Variation Management: Evaluate, negotiate, and manage variations to M&E works, meticulously assessing the cost implications and ensuring comprehensive documentation in line with contractual protocols. 6. Cost Reporting: Prepare regular, comprehensive cost reports and updates for project stakeholders, providing detailed analysis of expenditure, variances, risks, and opportunities to facilitate informed decision-making. 7. Value Engineering: Collaborate closely with project teams to identify and capitalize on value engineering opportunities, driving efficiency improvements and cost savings without compromising quality or functionality. 8. Risk Management: Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with M&E costs, implementing robust risk management strategies to minimize the likelihood of cost overruns and other financial setbacks. Qualifications and Skills: * Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. * Professional accreditation or membership with relevant industry bodies (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is highly desirable. * Extensive experience (X+ years) working as a Quantity Surveyor with a focus on M&E works within the construction industry. * In-depth knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost management principles. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make sound judgments. * Excellent communication and negotiation abilities, with a proven track record of building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels. * Proficiency in relevant software applications (e.g., Excel, CostX, Autodesk Quantity Takeoff) is advantageous
