Senior Material Buyer

Senior Buyer £60,000 - £65,000 West London Permanent Our client is a leading affordable housing contractor with a secured pipeline of signed housing and apartments schemes, totalling circa 600/700 units under construction for this year. Due to their Senior Buyer retiring after many successful years, they are in the market for an experienced and passionate Senior Material Buyer responsible for sourcing, procuring and managing materials and equipment required for construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction materials, supply chain management, and vendor relationships. **Key Responsibilities:** * Identify, qualify, and negotiate with potential vendors for materials and equipment *Quantification of materials through take-offs *Specification development through value engineering – have a good understanding of pricing for various materials/components * Develop and maintain a database of approved suppliers * Issue purchase orders and track order status * Monitor vendor performance and identify opportunities for cost savings * Coordinate with project managers to determine material requirements * Ensure compliance with procurement policies and procedures * Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging technologies * Negotiate favorable payment terms and delivery schedules * Process invoices and manage vendor accounts Producing internal specification schedules for clients sign off **Qualifications:** * 10+ years of experience in materials procurement in the construction industry * Strong understanding of construction materials, their properties, and industry standards * Experience in negotiating and managing contracts * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to work independently and as part of a team * Knowledge of procurement software and systems **Additional Desirable Skills:** * Experience with supplier diversity programs *Ensure rebate schemes are in place – track and recover monies when due **Work Environment:** * Office environment with potential for travel to construction sites * Collaboratively with a team of procurement professionals * Occasional interaction with vendors and project managers **Benefits** Competitive basic salary Car allowance Annual bonus scheme Pension scheme
