Finance Officer

As a Finance Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the department by providing professional and comprehensive financial services. From offering guidance and advice to challenging budget assumptions, you'll be at the forefront of ensuring financial best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in reviewing and enhancing service effectiveness, proposing improvements to maximise value for stakeholders and customers
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for designated service areas, fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Conduct research, analysis, and reporting of financial and management information
  • Prepare annual revenue and capital estimates in alignment with approved plans and policies, consulting with departmental budget managers to ensure compliance with corporate procedures and financial regulations
  • Support budget managers in monitoring and reporting financial performance, offering insights and forecasts
  • Conduct regular financial reconciliations and rectify errors promptly
  • Ensure timely and compliant closure of accounts in accordance with professional standards and statutory requirements
  • Assist in identifying financial risks
  • Aid in the development of business cases, assessing financial implications
  • Complete financial returns and processes, including grant claims and VAT self-certification
Key Skills Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation abilities, with a commitment to meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards
  • Clear and concise communication skills, especially in numerical and written reports
  • Initiative in understanding and completing tasks independently
  • Exceptional customer service, interpersonal, and influencing skills
  • Familiarity with computerised financial systems
  • Understanding of financial, accounting, and budgeting principles in a large organisation
  • Experience in local government accounting procedures and budget setting and monitoring
