About you: We are seeking a new Trustee who has executive level commercial property experience to augment our existing skilled and diverse team of Trustees as we deliver outstanding care across south east London. We are actively considering the care our community will need in the future and how our estate supports this. As a Trustee you will be part of shaping our vision, always keeping the needs of our community at the forefront of what we do. Your experience in property and estates will be vital in ensuring that our property strategy is congruent with our care strategy. The successful candidate could come from a variety of sectors including property development, construction, and/or estates and facilities management. You will need strategic leadership experience, ideally at board level, and experience of programme management of projects up to £100m. Professional qualification(s) in a relevant field would be advantageous, and the ability to discharge the overall duties of a charity Trustee is paramount. In addition, you will need to be an effective ambassador and influencer for the hospice and be committed to our aims and objectives, maintaining a genuine interest in our work. You will be a strategic and creative thinker and be able to work effectively as part of the team. About the role: Our Trustees works closely with our Executive Team and senior staff across the hospice to ensure that we continue to provide outstanding care; maintain our international reputation for education and research; and remain appropriately resourced to serve our community in the future. Our Trustee Team provides strategic leadership and expertise from a range of backgrounds and industries that gives St Christopher’s the direction and insight to continue as a world leader in palliative care. St Christopher’s is the place where the modern hospice movement began over 55 years ago. Our legacy is strong and our Trustees are currently considering the future health needs of our community so that we can continue to deliver the best possible care. This Trustee role will support us whilst we currently undertake a significant refurbishment of our main site and as we plan our estates requirements to match future needs. We currently have two vibrant sites in South East London providing excellent multi-professional care, alongside our extensive community work. We provided care and support to over 7,500 people in the local area last year, with over 500 inpatient admissions, over 5,000 outpatient appointments and over 13,000 home visits. We also have 24 charity shops supporting and contributing to the work we undertake, with over 500,000 customers visiting our stores last year. We welcome applicants from our under represented areas which includes applicants from BAME groups, in addition to diverse age and socio-economic groups. Further information The role of a Trustee of St Christopher’s is voluntary and Trustees will not receive remuneration for their services on the Board. Out of pocket expenses incurred by the Trustees in the course of carrying out the role will be reimbursed in accordance with the organisation’s expenses policy.
