Intermediate Quantity Surveyor


We are recruiting an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor for our client, based on a project in Manchester (M3). Our client is a Fitout/Refurbishment specialist part of the multidisciplinary team appointed to convert a Heritage Building into Office space. Overview: The successful candidate will be site based in Manchester (M3). This role offers an exciting opportunity for career growth and development within a dynamic and innovative company. Key Responsibilities: 1. Cost Management: * Prepare detailed cost estimates for fitout projects, including materials, labor, and other relevant expenses. * Monitor project costs throughout the lifecycle of each project, identifying potential cost overruns and implementing cost-control measures. * Conduct regular cost assessments and value engineering exercises to optimize project budgets while maintaining quality standards. 2. Contract Administration: * Assist in the preparation and evaluation of tender documents, including bills of quantities, specifications, and contract terms. * Administer contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and resolving any disputes that may arise. * Review and negotiate variations to contracts, assessing their impact on project costs and timelines. 3. Procurement: * Source and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive prices for materials and services. * Coordinate procurement activities to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment to project sites, minimizing delays and disruptions. * Evaluate supplier and subcontractor performance, identifying opportunities for improvement and cost savings. 4. Risk Management: * Identify potential risks and opportunities that may impact project costs or timelines, developing mitigation strategies to address them. * Conduct risk assessments and feasibility studies for new fitout projects, providing recommendations to senior management based on cost-benefit analysis. 5. Documentation and Reporting: * Maintain accurate records of project costs, payments, and variations, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements. * Prepare regular reports on project financials, highlighting key performance indicators and variances from budgeted costs. * Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, providing timely updates on cost-related matters and addressing any concerns or inquiries. Requirements: * Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field. * Minimum of 3 years of experience in quantity surveying or cost management, preferably within the fitout or construction industry. * Proficiency in cost estimation, contract administration, and procurement processes. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions. * Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers. * Proficiency in relevant software applications, such as MS Excel, AutoCAD, and quantity surveying software (e.g., CostX, Candy, COINS). * Membership in a relevant professional organization (e.g., RICS, AIQS) is desirable. * Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
