This role may include evening and weekend work but we are happy to consider part-time and flexible working arrangements.

Job Purpose

BBC Radio Kent has a rare opportunity to join our talented team of broadcast journalists based at Tunbridge Wells.

We're looking for strong all-rounders. You'll have experience in setting up and producing great radio but you might also be skilled in news-reading or reporting - maybe both! Creativity is really important - you'll have the ability to tell stories from across Kent in a creative and dynamic way that engage with our audience. You'll be a good team player and you'll be brimming with ideas on news stories to share with your colleagues and our audience. You'll also have the ability to recognise how we can share those stories in a variety of ways, not just on the radio, but on digital platforms as well.

You will work as part of the wider BBC South East news operation. We are establishing new work flows so adaptability and teamwork will be essential. Excellent communication skills are fundamental as the This job may involve shift and weekend working.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Local knowledge of the patch is essential, as is a passion for storytelling. In our newsroom, no two days are ever the same. One day, you might be setting up programme content, the next you could be studio producing a live show. You'll be skilled in coming up with creative content that will be of interest to our audience. You'll be great at telling the stories we cover in an engaging way. You may also find yourself reading bulletins on the radio and for our smart-speaker service. You will look to ensure a full diversity of voices, meeting high journalistic standards and observing the BBC Editorial Guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

The ideal candidate will be brimming with ideas for great content. You'll understand how to tell a story in a way in which our listeners can understand and engage with it. You'll be thinking about how to add value to an item using social media. You certainly won't be relying on the same old guests And you'll really care about reaching and engaging with a truly diverse audience.

The contractual base will be BBC Radio Kent (Tunbridge Wells), with variable hours.
