Package Manager (Steel Frame)

James Lewis has been appointed to assist a multi-dimensional Principal Contractor in North London in their search for a Steel Frame Site/Package Manager to join the team. Our client works across a range of project sectors which include data centres, education, commercial, healthcare and science & technology in and around London and the SE. They provide services from design, through construction and fit out to the maintenance of the projects, effectively offering an end-to-end solution.

This specific project is a datacentre that is currently undergoing the initial cycle of enabling works which entails a significant amount of levelling out, before commencement of the initial infrastructure/groundworks (all services below ground). With the Piling imminent, the sequence of concrete slab, steel frame, cladding/Kawneer curtain walling and aluminium standing seam roofing system, will then follow. Due to the specialist nature of each component of work, the client is recruiting a dedicated package manager for each stage. The 800-ton steel frame has a package value of GBP3.5m and is expected to be ready for erection in September, running through into Q1 of 2025. Although still 4 months away, the client is ready to recruit now to enable time to understand the project leading up to commencement of this package.

As an experienced Site/Package Manager, you will be required to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and confidence in managing the subcontractor to successfully deliver this project. You will be tasked with:

  • Review of subcontractor tender returns
  • Monitoring and maintaining the programme of all the onsite construction activities
  • Provide detailed progress reports to ensure programme delivery
  • Ensure subcontractors compliance with HSEQ requirements to derisk the project and ensuring that all site records are maintained
  • QA inspections of installations
  • Responsibility for duty of care/site waste management plan
  • Preparing RAMS where required and review of subcontractor RAMS

To be considered for this position you will need a qualification in either building engineering, civil engineering or construction site management. We are looking to hear from candidates with previous experience on large scale build projects, with previous datacentre experience a distinct advantage, but not essential. When applying, please ensure that your CV includes a detailed description of your proven track record in steel frame construction. The client has requested that we only consider larger commercial project experience as opposed to residential developments, which tend to be devoid of large steel frames.
