Technical Lead Tutor (Electrical)


Main purpose of the job To lead on the quality of delivery excellence in a designated area of the workshop. This role will include the training of new members of the team and supporting the Curriculum Managers in the standardisation and technical compliance of the curriculum. The post holder will need to have a wide spread of engineering skills across most/all of the areas in the designated area of the workshop. This role includes teaching, the majority of which is likely to be in response to changing operational needs of the department- rather than scheduled at the outset. To this extend, the post holder will be comfortable with activities that may change at short notice. The Lead Tutor will also function as a support for the Curriculum Managers in response to challenges of delivery and should be suitably skilled to contribute to wider business discussions about improvement. It is essential that the Lead Tutor has a good working knowledge of the Schemes of Work and assessments for the all of the units that fall under their designated area of the workshop. The Lead Tutor should also provide guidance and support to members of the operational team in order to achieve timely achievement. Key responsibilities * To develop efficient and effective schemes of work and assessments that meet the requirements of the appropriate Awarding Body and the Centre’s customers * To model delivery excellence * To train and mentor new members of staff * To lead on the reporting and communicating of learner progress * To support the development of course materials including handouts and reference materials to support topic delivery * To deliver training to apprentices and staff to ensure all Awarding Body and Centre requirements are met and standardized * To support the Centre’s preparation for Awarding Organsiation Quality Assurance processes. * To maintain suitable stocks of consumables * To create a motivational learning environment by providing stimulating and demanding subject delivery that allows learners to acquire the skills and knowledge required * To assess learners progress by various means of assessment and provide progress feedback and progress reports to learners and managers, to include identifying where appropriate learners at risk * To ensure learners, colleagues, parents and employers receive timely, accurate and constructive feedback on learners’ achievement, progress and areas for development that aids the learner’s progress. * To maintain learner discipline in compliance with the Centre’s Disciplinary codes and practices * Provide Internal Quality Assurance on learner work * To ensure the health and safety of learners and staff * To maintain learner records on Smart Assessor * To provide instructional cover for other areas of first year delivery as necessary, and within your capability * To deliver short courses and programmes as and when the need arises * To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably requested within the limits of your capability SAFEGUARDING INFORMATION This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
