Assistant Project Manager


Assistant Project Manager, Airfield Ground Lighting Based at: Heathrow and Gatwick (travel to other sites is essential) Reports to: Senior Project Manager /Commercial Director (Engineering) Overall Job Purpose: To assist in providing organisation, technical planning support, commercial support and management of numerous live projects Are you looking to develop your Project Management skills in a niche market working under the guidance of a highly experienced management team and the opportunity to travel internationally.. This is an amazing opportunity for someone with excellent communciation skills as a key part of the role will be interaction on a daily basis with key stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: Initially the Manager will be required to project manage Gatwick Airport project under the supervision of the Senior PM and assist in the Planning and Financial reporting of the Heathrow Project for the senior PM. You will also be required to assist or manage delivery of airfield ground lighting projects (AGL) primarily from the Heathrow office. These projects will be electrically biased and will include the following elements: system software configuration modifications, HMI mimic design, PLC programming, Procurement of hardware, hardware design, verification & factory acceptance testing You will be the ongoing contact between airport stakeholders and senior managers for allocated projects and an assistant on others based on workload and also be required to provide project forecasts and business reporting of the allocated AGL Control System Projects. You will assist the Senior PM or Engineering Director in production of monthly stock and WIP analysis for the engineering business unit utilising MS project or P6 so that future project management can be cost and time tendered for better project reporting and cost control. Knowledge of M6 Project or P6 is advantageous but not essential. You will assist and/or lead in the preparation of pre-qualification documents, quotations and tender returns as required for the Business Unit. You will ensure the allocated project work is delivered in accordance with the objectives of the our clients H, S & W policy as detailed in the company’s manual. Ideall you will hold an MBA in Business Studies or relative qualification within electrical engineering. Skills & Experience At least 12 months experience of successfully working on Engineering Projects and managing Project Teams to deadlines and on budget A demonstrable track record of continuous improvement in an engineering environment A highly effective communicator with well developed presentation skills A proven ability to influence and negotiate effectively at all levels A self starter with the ability to work under own initiative and have the ambition to develop further within the Company structure Sufficient Excel skills to assist in production of invoice requests, cash flow planning Personal Requirements Essential UK Driving Licence No unspent convictions (CRB Check) Ability to work across multiple UK sites Ability to travel overseas Valid visa to UK/EU National Desireable but not essential Knowledge of PC and PLC based Control Systems Knowledge of Electronic / Relay based Control Systems Knowledge of lamp monitoring and control principles Knowledge of Panel Manufacture and Installation Management and Scheduling of work Organisation of Project Process Flow Ability to prepare quotations for new works Experience of leading Developments for new Engineering Products or projects to time and budget. Detailed- Technical Knowledge (Essential) MS word MS Excel Commercial Reporting tools Working to ISO 9001 Procedures Organised and systematic approach to work planning
