Design Engineer

Job Overview

Our long standing client seeks a skilled and motivated Design Engineer to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies.

General Purpose of Role

• To prepare design concepts for new products.
• To perform heat / cool calculations for cabs.
• To perform heat exchanger performance calculations.
• To produce engineering designs for new product using appropriate CAD tools.
• To liaIse with Customer engineering representatives on design issues.
• To participate in the engineering aspects of Cost Reduction Programs.
• To conduct Engineering changes to existing products.

Main Responsibilities

New Products:

• Creation of conceptual designs to suit customer requirements.
• Assisting in the preparation of commercial quotations for the concepts.
• Developing the concept through to final design intent.
• Liasing with customers engineering representative.
• Detailing the final design intent for manufacturing.
• Compiling detailed Bills of Materials for the final design.
• Participating in Design and Process FMEA'S.
• Supporting the build of the prototype system.
• Supporting installation of the system into the customer cab.
• Participating in the testing of the prototype system.
• Preparation of all the information that is required for introducing the system into production.
• Deliver designs that are below cost targets with zero PPM product quality and with zero Customer complaints.

Existing products:

• Participating in Cross Functional Cost Reduction Team.
• Conduct reviews on existing products in order to reduce manufacturing and / or material costs.
• Conduct reviews on existing products with a view to improving the performance.
• Conduct Engineering Changes to existing products.

Continuous Improvement Initiatives:

• Participation as an individual or team member in continuous improvement initiatives in all areas and functions of the company.

Health and Safety

• An important feature of your role is that you are required to submit at least 1 Health and Safety suggestions, observations, near misses etc during each quarter. (Please see separate criteria)

Specific Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering which has encompassed the subjects of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
• Design Engineers with an alternative qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and some relevant experience will be considered for the position.

Specific Knowledge / Skills Competence

• CAD experience;
• PTC CREO (Pro Engineer) with Surface Design experience highly desirable.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Knowledge of HVAC systems and Components is an advantage.
• Experience of FEA is an advantage.
• Experience of CFD is an advantage

Working Hours

• Monday - Thursday 08:30 - 16:30 Friday: 08:30 - 13:00

Salary

• GBP38k - GBP45k dependent on experience.
