Innovation Engineer

Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for an Innovation Engineer with a background in the nuclear or defence sector to be engaged on a permanent basis in Whitehaven, with site visits 2/3 days a week.

Job Purpose:
To contribute to the design, development, and optimisation of engineering projects from conception through completion, ensuring technical excellence and practicality in applying engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities:

• 
  Design, test, and implement engineering solutions to improve processes, products, or systems.
• 
  Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals, including product management, manufacturing, and sales.
• 
  Perform detailed calculations to establish standards and expectations.
• 
  Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
• 
  Prepare and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
• 
  Conducted product testing and troubleshooting issues to ensure reliable product deployment.
• 
  Manage project resources, schedule timelines, and prepare status reports to keep stakeholders informed.
• 
  Continuously improve technical knowledge and skills by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and participating in professional societies.
• 
  Actively contribute to business development activities, including attendance at events.
• Manage and support all aspects of technical facilitation to elicit solutions and requirements for improvement initiatives.
• Support and take the lead on the establishment of new initiatives and capabilities for the business to establish market presence and growth.

Skills and Qualifications:

• 
  A bachelor's degree in Engineering (a specific discipline may be required depending on the role, e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, etc.).
• 
  Proven experience in engineering design, development, and project management (including years of experience if specific tenure is required).
• 
  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• 
  Proficient with CAD software and other engineering tools.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Familiarity with industry standards and technology developments.

Desirable Attributes:

• 
  Master's degree in Engineering or related field.
• 
  Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 
  Experience with Agile methodologies.
• 
  Project management certification (e.g., PMP).
