Qualified Social Worker - Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO)


Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) - Medway Council Job Title: Independent Reviewing Officer Service: LAC and Quality Assurance Main Purpose of Job: Ensure efficient and effective inter-agency working in child protection and services for looked after children. Constructively challenge interventions not delivering required outcomes for children. Conduct independent reviews of looked after children, complying with statutory guidance. Contribute to quality assurance and performance management for high practice standards. Chair complex case conferences/review meetings, ensuring full participation and prioritizing children's voices. Key Corporate Accountabilities: Promote work-life balance and flexible working for high-quality service delivery. Uphold Fair Access, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy, preventing discrimination. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and the duty of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. Uphold children and young people's views and rights in all aspects of the role. Act with honesty, focus, and consistency while being a resourceful and ambitious advocate for young people. Person Specification: Qualifications: Recognized professional Social Work Qualification - (ESSENTIAL) Registration with Social Work England - (ESSENTIAL) Experience: Significant post-qualifying experience (minimum 5 years) with management experience. Understanding of Family Court proceedings and pre FCP/PLO process. Extensive experience in Child Protection and/or Looked After Children teams. Familiarity with relevant legislations and national policies in Children's Social Care. Knowledge: Understanding of General Data Protection Regulations and Freedom of Information. Knowledge of legislation related to Children's Services and Medway Council's responsibilities for looked after children. Skills: Building productive relationships with colleagues and partners. Writing high-quality reports for professional settings. Analysing complex information and developing long-term plans. Communicating complex information effectively to diverse audiences. Competent in Microsoft Office and electronic integrated children's systems. Practicing effectively with autonomy and making quality judgments in challenging situations. Working under pressure, managing time effectively, and maintaining confidentiality. Other Requirements: Car driver and daily use of a car for business purposes. - (ESSENTIAL) Commitment to continuous professional development. Commitment to individual and reflective supervision. Understanding and commitment to Social Work England's professional standards. Enhanced DBS check. Working Style: Hybrid workstyle with flexibility, office-based for supervision and team meetings.
