Mechanical Shift Technician



Title: Mechanical Shift Technician
Role: Permanent
Location: Hospital Facility in Central London

Shorterm Group are looking for a Mechanical Shift Technician in Central London. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of mechanical systems within the hospital, including HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas systems. This is a permanent position that involves working rotating shifts to provide round-the-clock support for our facility.

Shift: 4 on days, 4 off nights 7-7
Salary: From 38k - 40k Salary (Salary negotiable dependent upon experience)

Responsibilities:
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on mechanical equipment and systems, including but not limited to HVAC units, boilers, chillers, pumps, and plumbing fixtures.
Monitor and maintain proper operation of medical gas systems, including oxygen, nitrogen, and compressed air, in compliance with regulatory standards and safety protocols.
Respond promptly to service calls and work orders to diagnose mechanical issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime.
Conduct emergency repairs and adjustments as needed to ensure the uninterrupted operation of critical equipment and services.
Perform scheduled equipment checks, calibration, and testing to verify performance and accuracy, documenting results as required.
Collaborate with other maintenance team members and contractors to coordinate maintenance activities, prioritize tasks, and complete projects within established timelines.
Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to record work performed, update equipment logs, and track spare parts inventory.
Adhere to all hospital policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements related to mechanical maintenance, including lockout/tagout procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
Participate in training sessions and professional development activities to enhance job knowledge and skills in mechanical systems and technologies.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and other departments to provide updates on work status, equipment issues, and maintenance needs.

Qualifications:
NVQ/City & Guilds (minimum level 2) or equivalent technical training or certification in HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical systems preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in a healthcare or similar facility.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment, and troubleshooting techniques, with the ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a focus on delivering high-quality workmanship and customer service.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to work rotating shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as required to support 24/7 operations.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with colleagues, supervisors, and external vendors.
