Senior Product Manager - Generation study (FTC until March 2025)


Company Description Genomics England partners with the NHS to provide whole genome sequencing diagnostics. We also equip researchers to find the causes of disease and develop new treatments – with patients and participants at the heart of it all. Job Description Would you like to use your skills and experience to create fantastic products that enable cutting edge research into the diagnosis of genetic disease in babies? The Generation Study is a new strategic initiative launched by Genomics England that aims to explore the potential of using whole genome sequencing to improve the diagnosis of rare genetic conditions in newborn babies. As a Senior Product Manager with us, you'll be the facilitator of the products we build. This is an opportunity for you to join us, on a Fixed Term Contract until March 2025, to combine your communication, leadership, problem defining and solving skills to take responsibility for scientific products that will directly impact the advance of genetic medicine. As Senior Product Manager for the pipeline and variant review products for the Generation study, you will be responsible for a product for almost its full lifecycle – from launch to sunset. You will work with designers, design-researchers, engineers and QAs to develop a minimal loveable product that can launch before the end of the year, you will prioritise essential features for scale up, plan and control the release cycle, and then put measures in place to ensure that data and ongoing processes are integrated into Genomics England business as usual before phasing out the product at the end of the study. Everyday responsibilities  Understand the key market, competitive, technical, ethical, clinical implications to lead the product effectively. Rely on technical knowledge and skills to prioritise and manage your squad's area of the product Ensure your users are happy, supported, and getting value from your area of the product. Ensure your product maintains compliance Define product vision and strategy. Set squad OKRs aligned to business priorities. Translate the vision, strategy and OKRs into a roadmap for your area of the product and communicate it effectively Manage successful outcomes through OKRs for users and the business by defining and prioritising the focus of the squad, balancing maintenance and new development using continuous discovery and delivery Solve problems and make decisions quickly and effectively to make rapid progress, including many perspectives in problem solving and incorporating data into all decision making Work in alignment with squad members, internal and external stakeholders, users, and third parties. Communicate priorities, commitments, and manage stakeholders.Skills and experience for success We are interested to receive applications from Senior Product Managers or experienced Product Managers ready to make the move to senior. Personal development and training will be tailored to support you at each level. Preferred: Experience taking a complex software product from discovery to sunset Experience building and navigating complex data products Experience of agile development/delivery of digital services.Essential: Experience of leading a team, including ability to mentor, coach and create a collaborative environment   Successful at (and enjoy) collaborating with people from a variety of backgrounds  Able to influence a range of stakeholders at a variety of seniorities but also willing to listen and take on board other opinions and ideas Highly proactive and a practical problem solver who likes to figure stuff out rather than explaining why it can't be done.  Scientific background, able to use scientific language and biological/clinical concepts to conduct user research and scientific requirement gathering as well as experience with bioinformatics approaches and techniques Qualifications Degree or experience in business or related fields.
