Clinical Psychologist


Do you have a mental health: nursing/social work/ therapy background? Are you interested in using your knowledge, skills and experience to support staff teams looking after young people in care? If so, we would like to hear from you.

You will form an integral part of the Clinical Team, working under the supervision of the Clinical Psychologist. Your role will mainly be comprised of four elements: Assessment (e.g. LAC reports, contributing to care planning etc.), Therapeutic work (e.g. Planning of key working activities with staff, developing groups etc.), Consultation (e.g. regular sessions with home managers, reflective practice, input around risk management etc.) and Training (core training for new starts, designing and delivering workshops based on staff need etc.). You will also have the opportunity to identify areas for service development and project manage these as required.

Due to the nature of the role and context, an understanding of the impact of trauma and experience of working with traumatised individuals, families / systems is essential. We are looking for someone who can lead by example, is fundamentally warm, nurturing and compassionate and can maintain a calm, reflective position. Ideally you will demonstrate initiative and have experience in leading on various projects.

Candidate Profile

To be successful within this role you will need to have experience in:

Working with Looked After Children and young people presenting with a range of clinical severity and needs.
Knowledge of theory and practice of therapeutic interventions with children and young people.
Assessment, intervention and management of a range of mental health needs including understanding mental health through a trauma lense.
Partnership working supporting agreed placement objectives, care planning and progression including regular clinical reporting and routine outcome measures

Essential:

Registered with the relevant professional body (HCPC, NMC, SWE, ACP)
Mental Health background, ideally some CAMHS experience
Interest in working with teenagers
Experience in using consultation with individuals / organisations / teams
Be a strong team player, with excellent communication skills
Highly organised and effective with time management
