Senior Safeguarding Advisor


Join Our Team Starting Salary: £50,367 with the opportunity to earn £52,945 Bonus: Up to 10% base salary per annum, based on achievement of Company targets and personal performance. Working Pattern: Days (37 hours per week, typical hours are 07:30 - 15:40 or 08:10 - 16:20) Location: Sellafield, West Cumbria What will the successful candidate be doing: The Senior Safeguarding Advisor ensures high standards are maintained across the Sellafield site with respect to nuclear materials accountancy and control. This will be done by the production of regulatory compliance reports, plus the provision of advice and guidance to the value streams and new projects to ensure regulatory requirements for safeguards, at both national and international levels, are fully embedded across the business. Responsibilities include: * Production of regulatory reports to meet compliance against UK Safeguards Regulation. * Interfacing with ONR Safeguards Inspectors to support regulatory inspections, investigating and resolving any subsequent issues that arise. * Providing support to stakeholders and regulators on Nuclear Material Accountancy Control and Safeguards technical issues. * Assisting the Department in ensuring that customer requirements are met in the production of quality assured Nuclear Material Accountancy and Safeguards solutions. * To promote consistency of approach to measurement control, quality and assurance by implementing best practice. * To contribute to the provision of effective Nuclear Material Accountancy and Safeguards in Sellafield Ltd designed facilities in line with Company policy and standards. * To investigate and prepare technical reports with conclusions and recommendations as appropriate. * To investigate and support resolution of any NMAS poor performance within their area of responsibility. * Keep abreast of Safeguards related technical issues. * Maintaining effective communications with key personnel and external agencies to ensure good stakeholder management and minimise plant disruption. The Ideal Candidate: Essential Skills * Understanding of the key principles of Nuclear Material Accountancy and Safeguards and how it impacts site. * Numerate with attention to detail and the ability to problem solve, innovate and provide practical solutions. * Ability to organise technical work tasks. * Experience of proactively sharing technical learning and best practice. * Proven stakeholder management experience including dealing with Regulators. * High levels of drive, energy, resilience and integrity. * Ability to produce high quality written reports and deliver to people from all levels of the organisation. * Proven ability to peer review others and give constructive feedback. * Proven ability to analyse data to look for trends areas of weakness. * To be able to interface with stakeholders of different disciplines and grades. Desirable Skills: * An understanding of the best practice guidance, international regulations and breadth of tasks involved in technical aspects of Nuclear Material Accountancy Control &Safeguards. * Degree (minimum 2:2) in a relevant science/engineering discipline, or appropriate other experience. * Knowledge of Sellafield Ltd issues relevant to Safeguards. * Experience of dealing with external stakeholders in a heavily regulated environment. * Awareness of assurance techniques.
