Support Worker

We are looking for an enthusiastic Support Worker with a full driving licence and access to their own vehicle as they will be required to transport the client.

You will have plenty of get up and go and like to be out and about to support our client who is an active outdoorsy 29-year-old man registered blind with learning difficulties who lives in his own home in the Mere, Warminster area along with his small dog and 2 budgies.

Providing high quality support including domestic care, social & leisure outings, gym attendance, beach visits, walks, lunches out while enabling him to be an independent individual.

You will also need to work closely with the Occupational Therapist in supporting the individual in learning to use assistive technology for the visually impaired.

What you will be working:

You would be working 24 hours per week on a shift rota basis:

  • Monday - 12pm until 4pm
  • Wednesday - 12pm until 4pm
  • Thursday - 12pm until 6pm
  • Friday - 12pm until 4pm
  • Saturday - 12pm until 6pm

Availability for additional evening work when required is desirable.

Salary:

  • 14.00 per hour
  • 45p per mile when using own car to transport client

What you will be doing:

  • Assist the client to exercise choice and control over their own lives as far as they are able in everyday matters but taking into consideration cognitive problems
  • Liaise with and support the family as required
  • Assist the client to ensure an adequate level of hygiene is maintained
  • Supporting the client to use local amenities such as shops and leisure facilities and attend community events
  • Follow the service user plan as documented for the client
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records
  • Participate in manual handling procedures as specified for the client
  • Maintain professional boundaries with the client and their family members, adhering to direction from the case manager as appropriate

What you will have:

  • Full driving licence is essential and access to their own vehicle as they will be required to transport the client.
  • Ability to treat people with respect and dignity, in a non-judgemental, respectful and caring way, acknowledging their individuality
  • An NVQ / QCF Level 2 or above in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
  • Experience of working with people with visual impairment
  • Competent IT skills are desirable
  • A genuine interest in providing the best person centre care possible
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to learn and develop
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS and enrol in the DBS update service
