New/Recent Graduate - Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon. Glasgow. £35,000 + per annum, DOE. Are you a new graduate looking for a supportive, independent, small animal practice? Maybe you have a few years’ experience and you are looking to develop. You are ambitious, you want to be part of an experienced team, and you are looking to enhance your career. We know of an independent practice, with an experienced and supportive team (over 30 and 15 years) waiting to mentor you in your early career. The best thing is, they’re hiring. This wonderful independent is well known and respected in the local community, first established by Sir William Weipers in the 1920s, it is situated in the west end of Glasgow with good commuting links. The practice is one of the few independent practices left in Glasgow and prides itself on its unique identity and ability to be versatile. The team is dynamic and has very much a family feel. The practice is hiring for growth. This is a practice where everybody pulls together when there’s work and relaxes when it’s time. A strong team who wants the best for patients and practice. The day-to-day duties include routine consultations, a good variety of small animal surgery and dentistry, radiography, internal medicine, laboratory work, and reporting. With 3 consulting rooms, a prep room, an operating room, ward rooms, a laboratory with catalyst, lasercyte, and microscope, isolation facilities, a radiography room with digital X-ray and dental X-rays, and outdoor space for the exercise of patients and staff relaxation. Consulting times are set between 15 and 30 minutes with vets being allowed the discretion when extra time is required for good clinical care. Surgery and consulting are divided equally throughout the week. Clinical freedom is supported. Being a recent or new grad, we know support is the first thing you are looking for, this practice understands this. As such, both lead veterinary surgeons are GPD advisors. Not only that but the practice is a tier 2 RCVS accredited practice and was recently inspected in October 2023 with complimentary feedback on their level of care, staff wellbeing, family feel, and facilities. Two graduates have completed their Vet GDP with the practice since 2020, allowing them to develop at the individual's pace, a pace they were comfortable with. You will feel support and mentoring in abundance here, tailored to you and your development needs. Recent achievements also include becoming an approved VN training practice. Next is the aim to become a Cat-Friendly Clinic moving forward to focus on developing the teams’ strengths. When it comes to hours, the working week is over 4 days, 9 am to 7 pm. Saturdays are on a rota basis currently 1 in 3, working 9 am to 4 pm, with Monday off the following week in lieu. As a new or recent graduate, you will be pleased to know there are no out-of-hours with this position or sole charge responsibilities. The team here is very welcoming, supportive, and friendly, they care about what they do and the service they provide. They share ideas, caseload advice, and offer support at all levels. The team currently consists of 4 veterinary surgeons, 2 receptionists, a qualified head nurse, a SVN, and 2 ANAs. An abundance of experience to learn from. So, what’s in it for you? Starting salary depends on experience, new grad starts from £35,000k per annum with a sizable bonus.
