Closing date

We have an exciting opportunity in the University's Safety, Health and Employee Wellbeing service for someone who would like to develop a career in health and safety.

The Technical Officer is a dual technical and administrative role that plays a crucial part in helping us deliver a great service to colleagues across the university. You'll be a key contact for our employee wellbeing networks, and the role will involve organising events and communicating with a range of stakeholders to support us to ensure that the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff and students remains a key priority for the University.

You will be responsible for providing initial frontline support to members of the University.

This could include:

- providing direct advice or guidance
- helping people with workplace assessments and investigating incidents
- signposting people to other members of the Safety, Health and Wellbeing team

Alongside this, you will provide administrative support to ensure we provide an effective and efficient service. This will include managing our web pages, helping to organise key activities, and handling all team purchases.

About you

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with other people and is keen to make a difference. You may have a health and safety qualification, but if not, you will have a genuine interest in this area and be willing to gain one, and to also attend other relevant training as necessary. You will also get support from the rest of team as you develop your skills and knowledge.

Whilst qualifications are helpful, much more importantly, you should be enthusiastic and flexible in your approach to work. You will be a great communicator with the confidence and willingness to work with colleagues from across our community, and to put your learning into practice in a busy work environment.

You will be expected to:

- manage your own workload
- show initiative and to work autonomously where appropriate
- prioritise your workload to ensure key deadlines and objectives are met

This role is integral to the work we do as a team and excellent organisational and administrative skills are essential to support team members to deliver their roles.

Further information

This is a part-time role, working 30 hours per week.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Chris Young, Deputy Director Safety & Wellbeing Services, or Debbie Robarts, Scientific Safety Adviser.

What we can offer you:

- a very generous employer contributory pension scheme

- we are a family-friendly University and, with an increasingly agile workforce, are open to flexible working arrangements
