Assistant Quantity Surveyor


This is a fantastic opportunity for an assistant quantity surveyor who is looking to take the next step into becoming the sole QS for an expanding business. The below job description is fully encompassing however there Will be support to develop in all of these areas. My client is an expanding family construction business, with its own Groundwork's division, who currently build around 30 houses of mixed types per year within the East Midlands. You will be responsible for working closely with the construction director and contracts / Site managers on several projects within the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire area. Key Responsibilities * Provide the commercial lead on projects including estimating quantities, costs and time scales for material and labour. * Preparing Full Bills of quants and cost plans for new and current jobs. * Producing month end Valuations and costs analysis. * Producing Bank valuations. * Work with the accounts team to produce and monitor monthly cashflow forecasts * Manage weekly and monthly sub contractor valuations and invoices. Including weekly site visits to check quants and quality * Ensure financial details for projects are accurate from the construction team. * Assist on design and Buildability. Scrutinising external architects and engineers drawings and liaising with them finalise cost efficient and practical designs. * Work in partnership with the team to ensure jobs are being built to specification and in line with drawings. * Conduct site visits to assess progress and identity any potential issues * To manage and update project commercials and identify any risks, opportunities or changes * Distribution of drawings, schedules and general information to sub-contractors. * Ensuring projects meet legal and quality standards Skills and experience * Degree/qualification within Quantity surveying or construction management * Previous experience as a quantity surveyor within the construction field. * Strong knowledge and experience within Groundwork's / Drainage. * Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials and costs * Strong negotiation & communication skills * Ability to work independently or as part of a team
