The Role: Environmental Lead The Location: Immingham (UK travel required for 4 other sites) Renumeration Package: £55-63K + Up to 30% Bonus & Pension THE CLIENT VPI is a preeminent power company, part of the Vitol Group. We are already one of the leading Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) operators in the UK, with assets across five locations capable of generating 3.3GW of power. Our efficient and flexible generation portfolio complements an increased use of renewables as part of the energy system, ensuring security of supply in the power grid. At the same time, we are solving for decarbonisation of gas-fired dispatchable generation, as well as industrial clusters. For example, we are part of Humber Zero, a project to decarbonise critical energy intensive industry in the Humber. Humber Zero is a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project on the south bank of the Humber Estuary. The large-scale decarbonisation project will remove up to 8-million tonnes per annum of CO2 at the Immingham industrial site within the next 7 years.  This represents a meaningful reduction in national CO2 emissions, while protecting local jobs and supporting the region’s economy. Finally, we are anticipating the shift to zero-carbon storage technologies that will provide flexibility and stability in the energy system in the long term. We are building our portfolio in these areas and creating a suite of services to suit corporate and grid needs VPI has an ambitious growth agenda. We are growing our portfolio in the UK and abroad. Role Summary: The role is to ensure delivery of compliance across all VPI sites. To support and advise site management, project teams and other relevant staff on all aspects of legal compliance and environmental management, including compliance with the Environmental Permitting Regulations and other relevant EU, UK and Irish environmental legislation, standards, and codes of practice. Duties: To ensure significant environmental risks are identified and managed via the business risk framework. To ensure maintenance of ISO14001 and ISO9001 certifications and inclusion of new sites into the certified management system. To ensure legal compliance by supporting the site operational and maintenance teams. To co-ordinate VPI compliance with the UK Emissions Trading Scheme monitoring, reporting and verification requirements. Liaise with Environmental Regulators on matters relating to site permits and legal compliance The role requires the individual to regularly travel to the varies sites and projects. Key Responsibilities Maintaining specialist knowledge of environmental legislation and technology developments as they relate to VPI activities and the provision of guidance and support to sites. Monitoring the implementation of legislation, including Regulator expectations, prosecutions, and case law. Identifying Business Planning assumptions. Ensuring adequate provision for environmental compliance in Business Plans. Ensuring adequate systems and processes are in place across the Business. Delivery of the annual environmental audit programme. Communicating internally and externally as required to deliver the above. Maintenance of the register of environmental risks, ensuring all significant environmental risks are identified and communicated and adequate controls are put in place and monitored. Input to the Joint Environmental Programme (JEP) working group(s) and communication of output within VPI as appropriate. Co-ordinate business wide compliance with the UK ETS Monitoring Reporting &Verification requirements. Provide specialist advice on Air Quality, Water Quality and BAT requirements. Ensure site operational and maintenance teams meet to discuss environmental compliance issues and share and implement best practices via group forums. Actively seek out opportunities to avoid, remove or reduce environmental constraints on EW operations via discussions with sites and regulators. Deputise for the Environment Manager from time to time. Provide support and advice to the Environmental Advisor as necessary. Support the Environment Manager in consultation and lobbying activities as required. Co-ordinate the submission of EG data to Vitol. Lead annual data verification audits, ensuring data returned to regulators and Vitol accurate and in-line with current guidance. Support permit applications and variations as required. Maintain VPI environment and quality procedures to remain complaint with ISO9001 and ISO14001 and develop and implement procedures where required. Timely reporting of business-critical information to key internal stakeholders annually and monthly (BSC, management review, IMS plan, risk reviews, sustainability reporting) Desired Skills, Knowledge and Experience Educated to Degree level in relevant discipline. 3 years plus environmental management experience within an industrial setting Subject Matter Expert (SME) of Environmental legislation relating to IED installations. Lead auditor qualification Ability to engage at all levels of an organisation and form effective relationships with other individuals, department, and businesses. Experience working with regulators and auditors
