Ford & Stanley – Specialists in Digital Recruitment are recruiting a Structural Engineer (Digital) for a new business, who have created a revolutionary product that is going to change the way reinforced concrete is used in civil engineering. The Opportunity In the hopes to reduce steel and concrete utilisation and enhance sustainability across the sector, this product effectively acts as an alternative to situations where traditionally reinforced concrete / Rebar would be utilised. In some cases, this can result in up to an 80% reduction in material use, and therefore carbon footprint. As the Structural Engineer your role will be focused around the ‘optimised design’ of in-situ products, being involved in building/structural design from concept through to manufacturing. You will also be responsible for developing in-house design, modelling and analysis, utilising software’s such as Grasshopper and Python. Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire Role and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Principal Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for: Concept to detail engineering design stages of buildings and their structural elements. Using and developing in-house design, modelling, and analysis tools (Grasshopper/Python). Writing standard Eurocode compliant hand calculations and embedding design code checks in workflow. Producing CAD models in Rhinoceros, preparing and exporting models for laser-cutting, considering assembly and cost. Working with clients via meetings, workshops, and the design team, to solve problems. Providing updates on projects and its deliverables on a regular basis. Liaise and work with the internal team of other mechanical/structural engineers and contract/business managers, and external parties such as experimental testing facilities and Universities. Developing own knowledge and ability, path to Chartership. Continuous improvement activities to support business growth. Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to continuously improve design practices and enhance construction efficiency. Keeping senior management up to date on project status and progress. The Candidate The successful candidate will be qualified to MEng degree (or BEng and Masters) in Civil/Structural engineering. Proven experience as a practising engineer would be a significant advantage. Competent in applying a programming language to solve problems (ideally in Python). Comfortable in using CAD software, with an emphasis on Parametric Modelling (Grasshopper/Dynamo). Strong background in structural mechanics/analysis, working from first principles and using Eurocodes. Can use finite element analysis to solve beam and shell models.
