Design Manager

Job Purpose The Design Manager plays a pivotal role in leading and managing a dynamic team responsible for the geometric design aspects of high voltage battery pack development within the automotive industry. This role is critical for ensuring the successful execution of design activities, encompassing geometric modelling, tolerance analysis, packaging studies, and design for manufacturability. By leveraging advanced design tools and methodologies, the Design Manager drives innovation and excellence in geometric design, ultimately contributing to the development of cutting-edge battery systems for electric vehicles. Key Duties & Responsibilities: * Team Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to the design team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Define clear goals, priorities, and expectations to ensure alignment with overall project objectives. * Geometric Design: Oversee the development of geometric models for high voltage battery packs, considering packaging constraints, performance requirements, and manufacturing considerations. Ensure adherence to design standards, regulations, and best practices. * Tolerance Analysis: Conduct tolerance analysis studies to assess the impact of dimensional variations on product performance, assembly, and quality. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize tolerance specifications and ensure robust design integrity. * Packaging Studies: Lead packaging studies to optimize the spatial arrangement of battery cells, modules, cooling systems, and other components within the battery pack enclosure. Balance competing priorities of space utilization, thermal management, and structural integrity. * Design for Manufacturability: Drive design for manufacturability initiatives to streamline production processes, reduce manufacturing costs, and enhance product quality. Collaborate with manufacturing engineering teams to implement design improvements and process optimizations. * Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with engineering, testing, and procurement teams to integrate geometric design considerations into the overall product development process. Ensure alignment of geometric design solutions with functional requirements and customer expectations. * Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of geometric design processes. Explore emerging technologies and methodologies to stay at the forefront of geometric design innovation within the automotive industry. * Quality Assurance: Establish robust quality assurance processes for geometric design activities, ensuring compliance with design standards, regulations, and customer specifications. Implement best practices and standards to maintain consistency and integrity across design activities. Qualifications & Experience: * Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field. Advanced degree (e.g., MSc, PhD) preferred. * Proven experience in design engineering or related roles within the automotive industry, with a focus on geometric design aspects. * Demonstrated leadership experience, including team management, project planning, and strategic decision-making. * In-depth knowledge of geometric design principles, CAD software tools, and tolerance analysis methodologies. * Strong understanding of battery system architecture, packaging constraints, and design considerations in electric vehicles. * Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. * Proven track record of driving innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within a design engineering environment. * Experience with quality assurance processes and standards for geometric design activities. * Proficiency in relevant CAD software tools such as CATIA, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or Creo. * Professional certifications (e.g., Chartered Engineer, Certified SolidWorks Professional) and memberships in relevant industry associations are advantageous.
