Company Overview

A specialist engineering business focused on the design and delivery of on-site low-carbon power solutions, including Combined Heat & Power (CHP), Solar PV, and Battery Storage systems. The work supports industrial and commercial clients in reducing energy costs and carbon emissions. Projects typically deliver a strong return on investment within 12-18 months and demand precision, innovation, and close collaboration across design and engineering teams.

Role Overview

Seeking a skilled SolidWorks 3D Modeller with a background in mechanical or electrical engineering. The role involves designing and modelling complete system layouts, component assemblies, and infrastructure for CHP units, battery enclosures, and PV integrations. A strong eye for detail and a clear understanding of real-world applications are critical to success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create accurate 3D models and 2D technical drawings using SolidWorks for mechanical, electrical, and structural components.

  • Develop detailed system layouts for energy infrastructure, including CHP, battery storage, and solar PV.

  • Produce general arrangement (GA), fabrication, and installation drawings for engineering and contractor use.

  • Collaborate with engineers to convert technical specifications into detailed models.

  • Maintain drawing control, versioning, and project documentation throughout the design process.

  • Participate in site surveys to gather accurate dimensions and reflect existing conditions.

  • Support the creation of manufacturing and assembly documentation such as BOMs, panel layouts, and ducting/piping routes.

  • Identify and implement design optimisations to improve efficiency, buildability, and serviceability.

  • Ensure all designs meet relevant health & safety regulations and engineering standards.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proficient in SolidWorks 3D CAD (minimum 2-3 years in a similar role).

  • Educational background in mechanical, electrical, or energy systems engineering (degree, HND, or equivalent).

  • Experience creating fabrication drawings and layouts for industrial or energy projects.

  • Strong understanding of tolerancing, materials, and mechanical fit in real-world assemblies.

  • Able to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.

  • Excellent attention to detail and a practical approach to design challenges.

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with low-carbon energy systems such as CHP, solar PV, or battery storage.

  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, piping, or modular/containerised unit design.

  • Understanding of RAMS and site-specific H&S requirements.

  • Experience with project planning software or BIM integration (advantageous but not essential).

What s Offered

  • Competitive salary based on experience.

  • Opportunities to contribute to sustainable energy and innovative engineering projects.

  • Supportive team culture with ongoing training and professional development.
