Job Responsibilities

As the Attendance & Alternative Provision Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting student welfare and ensuring every pupil has access to suitable education. Key responsibilities include:

• Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality, identifying patterns of concern.
• Working proactively with families, staff, and external agencies to address attendance issues.
• Conducting home visits and welfare checks as required.
• Coordinating alternative provision for students not accessing mainstream lessons, including liaising with off-site providers.
• Maintaining accurate attendance records and preparing reports for senior leadership and external bodies.
• Supporting reintegration plans for students returning from alternative provision or long-term absence.
• Upholding safeguarding procedures and contributing to a culture of vigilance and care.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

• Have experience working with secondary-aged students, ideally within a school, youth work, or welfare setting.
• Be confident in building positive relationships with students, families, and multi-agency teams.
• Be highly organised, with strong administrative and IT skills (particularly SIMS or similar systems).
• Possess knowledge of attendance legislation and safeguarding protocols (training can be provided).
• Demonstrate resilience, empathy, and a commitment to inclusive education.
• Hold a valid driver s licence and have access to a vehicle (for home visits and off-site meetings).
